"העולם כולו נגדנו!": אימה ומוסר בשיח הציבורי

"מוֹתַר הָאָדָם מִן-הַבְּהֵמָה אָיִן," קונן קהלת, שהרי "מִקְרֶה אֶחָד לָהֶם–כְּמוֹת זֶה כֵּן מוֹת זֶה." כולנו בני-תמותה, ולא מותר האדם, אך נבדל: רק הוא לבדו, עוד מילדותו, יודע שנגזר עליו למות, ורק הוא לבדו יודע שיוכל לגזור מותו בעצמו: להתאבד. עול החופש הגמור, משא הבחירה בין חיים ומוות, הוא כבד מנשוא, מטיל אימה. כדי להכיל את האימה, אנו פונים אל הקהילה – המשפחה, השבט, העם, האומה, הדת והציביליזציה – ומוצאים בה נחמה. הקהילה מעניקה לנו משמעות בת-קיימא: מצפן מוסרי ומעשי לנווט באמצעותו במשעולי חיים הפכפכים. אלא שלפרקים אנו חשים שגם לקהילתנו נשקפת סכנת-מוות, ואנו מוצאים עצמנו לפותים בחרדה קיומית כפולה. לנוכח החרדה גובר הפיתוי לברוח מחופש הבחירה לעבר מהותנות ודטרמיניזם: להאמין ש"כאלה אנחנו – וככה הם!" ושפשוט "אין ברירה!", וחייבים לפעול כך ולא אחרת. השפעות המהלך כולו על הפוליטיקה הן עצומות, ובכולן נשזרת תקשורת, בייחודה האנושי. כמעט כל החיות מתקשרות, אך רק לאדם יש שפה: היכולת לשזור אינספור צירופים ממספר מוגבל של מרכיבים סמליים. השפה מתעלת את האימה, המוסר והמנוס-מחופש לשלל אפיקי ביטוי בשיח הציבורי. היא מאפשרת לנו לא רק להביע פחד, אלא להפחיד ולהשניא; לא רק להרהר במצפוננו האישי, אלא ליצור לגיטימציה לקהילתנו; לא רק לכונן לעצמנו זהות, אלא להגדיר עבור אחרים מי ומה הם.

מהלך הקורס וחובות

• ליבת הקורס מורכבת מארבעה נושאים: גישות בחקר שיח ציבורי; אימה ופחד; מצפון ומוסר; והמנוס מחופש. לכל נושא נקדיש שלושה שיעורים מלווים בקריאת חובה.
• הקורס יתקיים במתכונת של סדנא, ויחייב קריאה שוטפת, נוכחות סדירה והשתתפות פעילה בפגישות הקורס. הקריאה מבוססת על הרשימה בהמשך, המורכבת ברובה מספרי-יסוד.
• קריאת-חובה: מדי שבוע תתבקשו לקרוא 1-2 מאמרים/פרקים (הפריטים המודגשים ברשימה שלהלן).
• הסטודנטים מתבקשים להודיע למרצה על היעדרות וסיבתה בטרם-עת.
• תתבקשו לבחור במקרה-מחקר: קהילה, שאת השיח הציבורי שלה תבקשו לחקור במרוצת השיעורים.
• במרוצת הקורס תתבקשו להציג רפרט המשלב עיונים כלליים בקריאה לקורס למקרה-המחקר. את הטקסט לרפרט (בהיקף של כ-2-3 עמודים) יש לשלוח לכלל הכיתה יומיים או יותר לפני השיעור.
• לאחר הרכב הציון: 15% השתתפות; 15% רפרט; 70% לעבודה הסמינריונית.
• היעדרות משלוש פגישות ומעלה תגרע מהציון. סטודנטים שייעדרו מחמש פגישות ומעלה לא יזכו לציון.
